About Donyboy73, The Small Engine Doctor
I’m originally from a small town in Northern Ontario called Matheson. Like quite a lot of Northern Ontarian’s, I’m bilingual, speaking French and English. These days, my wife and I make our home further south, in Muskoka, Ontario.
As a young man, I studied law enforcement, but after a placement during my training, I realized it wasn’t my passion. Meanwhile, family circumstances required me to stick close to home. I’d always been good with small engines, so I began to take on repair work from my home’s garage.
Something became clear to me right away. I was seeing the same issues again and again: either repairs so straightforward that I felt badly taking people’s hard-earned money for them, or repair work requiring replacement parts and labour that would add up to just about the cost of a brand-new piece of equipment. Once I understood this, my approach to the business of small engine repair took shape.
There are two facets to my business. First, I fix small engines. Second, I teach other people how to fix small engines via my popular YouTube channel, at donyboy73.

I know not everyone wants to learn how to do their own repairs, and some repairs will be complex, involving multiple issues at once. That’s why I run my repair shop, for people who don’t have the time or just want their stuff fixed so they can keep doing what they’re doing. For those people, it’s important to know that I’ll be straight with you. If your repair doesn’t make sense from a cost/replacement perspective, I’ll tell you so. I know you work hard for your money just like I do.
How to fix small engines
For the rest of you—whether it’s because you were kind of hoping to get your lawn mower back up and running today, or because you’re a learner who likes to get hands-on, or because you hate to pay someone else to do something you could do yourself—I get it, and you’re the reason I make my YouTube videos. I like to help empower people with the knowledge they need to roll up their sleeves, get their hands dirty, and fix their own gear.
